AVIEN NEWS
Presences at Conferences
AVAR, December 2001, Hong
Kong

Robert Vibert,
Administrator of AVIEN (and Segura Solutions, the company that handles
the administrative
work for AVIEN), presents a look at what the AVIEN / AVI-EWS
organizations are all about.

Vesselin Bontchev
(not representing his employer FRISK software) launches an all-out attack
on the whole notion of users actually knowing enough about malware to
ask vendors to provide them with certain features.

Robert desperately
tries to maintain his cool while listening to Vesselin. He replies
politely
and asks for more questions. To keep things in perspective, he remembers
Vesselin in another frame of mind, as seen below:

Vesselin Bontchev letting himself relax, Orlando, Florida.

Next up is Vincent
Gulloto of Network Associates, who also passionately asks why AVIEN
exists in the first place. As far as we know, Vincent does not perform
in nightclubs on the side. The woman beside him does look like she is
listening to a ballad, though, come to think of it.

Robert is now cool
as a cucumber and takes pleasure in explaining why customers would want
to talk to each other about malware issues and products.

Having survived
the onslaught of verbal attacks, Robert Vibert is awarded a plaque to
display in his office.

And, in an incredible
show of solidarity with the needs of users, Robert gets to sit on a
panel which is bombarded with questions from the audience. Here we see
him adjusting his tri-corder to deflect the more harrowing of these
assaults.
Besides the rigours
of the conference, Hong Kong was a wonderful city and much enjoyed by
the members of AVIEN who attended. If you forgot, you were supposed
to be wearing your funny bone while reading the above captions.
